Richardson Bay Audubon Center: Shorebird Habitat and Hillside Trails

Overlooking Richardson Bay in Tiburon, Richardson Bay Audubon Center and Sanctuary spans 10.5 acres of upland trails/gardens plus a 900-acre subtidal sanctuary. This Audubon-managed site excels in shorebird and waterbird viewing, with winter protections closing the bay to watercraft October to March for migratory refueling.

A Blend of Tidal Bay, Oak Woodland, and Migratory Habitat

The center bridges oak woodlands, hillside paths, and Richardson Bay's subtidal waters/mudflats, supporting wintering waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors, and Pacific herring-dependent species. Trails overlook rafting ducks/geese and foraging birds; the sanctuary hosts tens of thousands during migration.

Adventure With a Conservation Conscience

Half-mile hillside nature loop through oaks/gardens; bike/walk historic Richardson Bay Rail Trail for bay views. Observe from paths; docent programs/events available.

Access is thoughtful: open year-round (Mon to Fri 9 to 5 typical), free entry, pack out waste, stay on trails. Bay closed to watercraft October to March for bird protection; no major 2026 changes noted.

Richardson Bay Audubon Center offers Marin shorebird habitat trails with bay serenity. For birders craving waterfowl spectacles and quiet walks, the paths reward respectful observation; a vital winter haven.
