Three Sisters Falls: Remote Waterfalls and Rock Scramble in Cleveland National Forest

Hidden in a canyon near Descanso/Julian in Cleveland National Forest, Three Sisters Falls (now via Cha'Chaany Hamuk Trailhead) cascades down three smooth granite tiers into pools ideal for scrambling and seasonal swimming. This remote, upgraded trail offers a fun, adventurous escape with improved safety features.

A Dramatic Canyon and Cascading Waterfall Ecosystem

The area blends granite boulders, chaparral slopes, and riparian zones along Boulder Creek, supporting native plants, amphibians in pools, and birds in the canyon. Water flows strongest post-rain (spring peaks), creating vibrant three-tiered falls amid recovering forest habitat.

Adventure With a Conservation Conscience

The 3.9–4.3-mile out-and-back (moderate-hard, 900+ ft gain) features rock scrambling (no ropes needed post-reroute), boulder hopping, and pool exploration. Start early; bring grip shoes/poles.

Access is intentional: Adventure Pass required for parking ($5, buy online), sunrise to sunset, pack out waste, caution on wet rocks (slippery/drowning risks). Trailhead hardpack parking with vaults/picnic area; no kids/dogs recommended for scrambles.

Three Sisters Falls offers San Diego remote waterfalls hiking with thrilling cascades. For scramblers seeking hidden tiers and refreshing pools, the rugged path rewards caution and wonder; a forested canyon jewel.
