Briceburg Recreation Area: Whitewater Rafting and Merced River Access

Along Highway 140 in the Merced River corridor (BLM-managed), Briceburg Recreation Area serves as a key put-in/take-out for whitewater rafting on the Merced River. This scenic spot offers river access, historic railroad remnants, and picnic areas; a popular launch for Class III to IV runs.

A River Canyon and Riparian Mosaic

Briceburg blends Merced River rapids, granite canyon walls, riparian vegetation, and historic sites. Trout and salmon run seasonally; wildlife includes otters, eagles, deer; the area supports diverse birds and aquatic life in a Wild and Scenic corridor.

Adventure With a Conservation Conscience

Rafting (Redbud to Briceburg or downstream); picnicking, fishing (license required). Historic buildings for viewing.

Access is intentional: free parking/day-use, pack out waste. Seasonal high flows (spring); respect private land; no major closures.

Briceburg Recreation Area delivers whitewater rafting on Merced River in canyon beauty. For paddlers seeking Class III to IV thrills and river access, the put-in repays flow planning; a classic Sierra launch.
