Stone Lagoon: Kayaking and Wildlife in Coastal Lagoon

Along Highway 101 near Orick in Humboldt Lagoons State Park, Stone Lagoon is a large brackish lagoon ideal for kayaking and wildlife viewing. This scenic water body offers calm paddling, birdwatching, and coastal immersion; a peaceful Humboldt escape.

A Brackish Lagoon and Wetland Mosaic

Stone Lagoon blends tidal inflows, freshwater creeks, salt marsh, and forested shores, supporting diverse birds (herons, egrets, ducks), harbor seals, river otters, and seasonal salmon. Wetlands filter water and provide nursery habitat in a protected lagoon system.

Adventure With a Conservation Conscience

Kayak rentals/launch from day-use area; paddle to explore channels and wildlife. Binoculars for spotting seals/otters.

Access is intentional: day-use parking (fee), sunrise to sunset, pack out waste. No motors in some zones; respect nesting seasons; check for lagoon level/tide conditions.

Stone Lagoon delivers Humboldt kayaking and wildlife in coastal serenity. For paddlers seeking calm waters and seal sightings, the lagoon repays gentle strokes; a tranquil Humboldt haven.
